How to oil your shredder

by Hugh Martin on 2007-09-22 23:47:35 - Email This

How often to oil your shredder depends on the usage it gets, so a good dose of common sense goes a long way.  A rule of thumb I often give my customers is to oil it every time you empty the collection container.  Do them together every time and it will help you not to forget.  Run a "bead" of oil across the entire cutting head then operate it without paper both forward and reverse for a few seconds to distribute the oil.

Honestly?  The easiest way is to automate the process.

First of all, if you own or plan to own a crosscut shredder, it is imperative to the operation of your shredder that you oil the cutting heads regularly.  They are engineered to such exacting specifications, lubrication is a must.

Back to my point, on our larger machines, we offer as an option an automatic oiler that attaches to the machine itself and oils it for you.

Not only is this a great idea to prevent maintenance or repair costs down the road, but if you purchase your new Indoff shredder with the automatic oiler, the cutting heads will be covered by a Lifetime Warranty.  That's good piece of mind and makes the oiler a wise investment.

Take a look at a couple of our shredders with the automatic oiler attached.
